Math Camps
Creative Math Camps are engaging and exciting programs filled with goal-driven activities that make mathematics relevant to a child’s interest here and now. Whether it’s making frosting for cookies, coding a computer game or composing music, Creative Math Camps empower children to be thoughtful and creative problem solvers using the power of Math.

What Are Math Camps All About?
Math Camps are about opening up students’ minds to how math lies in the world beyond the classroom. Campers delve into a week full of fun, challenges, and new explorations. Every camper is given the opportunity to take learning into their own hands as they explore obstacles, brainstorm ideas, and creatively accomplish goals.
Whether a student excels in their math school work or the student has been turned off by the subject, Math Camp is about giving students the opportunity to discover themselves how math is not just about numbers, but rather it’s about creativity and logistically exploring problems and collaboratively deriving solutions that they can proud of.
At Math Camp, we don’t do math,
we use math
in the activities we love doing,
defining and achieving our own success.
What is a Day at Math Camp Like?
Each Math Camp runs for one week Monday-Friday from 9am-1pm with campers divided up into three groups based on their age and grade. Every morning, campers rotate between three workshops in which they engage in hands-on activities exploring math’s connection to a variety of fields such as music, art, puzzles, and more. After the morning workshops, campers break for lunch and recess, then reconvene for a camp-wide challenge, giving students the opportunity to work with new partners and make new friends as they explore more complex challenges!
What Kind of Activities Do Students Engage In?
One of the most important goals of the Math Camps is to empower students to understand why math matters. Thus, our camps offer workshops that cover a wide range of topics, allowing students to explore how even the simplest mathematical concepts have tremendous impacts on the world around us, including:
Music
such as learning drum beats, discovering patterns in songs, and composing music;
Art
such as origami, tessellations, perspective drawing, and jewelry making;
Puzzles
where campers are encouraged to think creatively and algorithmically in finding solutions to activities such as Rush Hour, Pentominoes, answering riddles, and more;
Board Games
where campers exercise the mathematical skills of gathering and making sense of information, developing and revising strategies, and learning from our mistakes;
Computer Art
where campers engage in creating beautiful fractal art based on the ideas of symmetry;
Computer Coding
where campers learn the core concepts of computer science applicable to all programming languages;
Cooking and Recipes
where campers learn about measurements in cooking and how
to re-portion recipes;
Engineering
such as building roller coasters, kites, and bridges with marshmallows and toothpicks, and egg-catching contraptions for The Great Egg Drop;
and still more!
What Makes Math Camp So Unique?
Workshops are led by inspiring, experienced instructors who help foster natural curiosity for problem solving, making math more fun and intriguing for both students who embrace mathematics and those who have been turned off by it. Campers are able to develop deep connections with the Workshop Instructors and their Group Mentors in a personalized setting, providing the opportunity for campers to receive the individual attention they need to grow emotionally and thrive intellectually. Mentors encourage campers to explore riddles and challenges with open minds every step of the way, empowering them to succeed and have fun with math!
What Are Some
of Math Camp?
Integration with the core concepts of STEM / STEAM, Common Core, and Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS);
utilizing proven, research based ideas in creating engaging opportunities for our children that encourage the development of higher level thinking;
Interdisciplinary and Holistic,
allowing students to not only understand that math is connected to a variety of fields, but also
that utilizing mathematics in these fields allows us to create more creative, more
comprehensive, and more successful projects;
A 4:1 Camper-to-Counselor Ratio,
providing campers with the personalized attention they need to overcome obstacles;
Grade/age-based camper groups,
allowing each project to focus on the mathematical elements that is relevant to students’
studies during the academic year;
Goal-oriented projects,
for every workshop and topic for students to touch, explore, and understand as they connect
the abstract with the tangible;
Flexible activities,
allowing campers to utilize their individual skill sets and creative ideas to develop unique
strategies towards accomplishing their goals;
And a balance of both small, grade-based workshops and entire camp collaborative activities
to allow campers to learn alongside peers of all levels.
Is Math Camp Just for Kids Who Like Math?
Not at all! The goal of our camps is to teach students how mathematics is a way of thinking and being creative in everyday life, breaking the myth that math is just about numbers and boring textbook problems.
Whether your child loves math, is math-phobic, or is bored by math in school, Summer Math Camps are an amazing way to help students see the wonder of mathematics that is engaging, approachable, and fun.
What Are Parents Saying About Math Camp?
“When I first proposed Math Camp to my kids, they protested madly. They said ‘I hate Math!’ and ‘Why would torture us!’ On the first day, my son saw a board that said ‘Today is Fraction Day’ – he grabbed me by the arms and said ‘Mom, I’m not going to make it – don’t leave me here!!” But when I came to pick the kids up, they didn’t want to leave. They explained all they had made that day and the math behind it was evident but mostly and more importantly – it was fun! This is the first non-painful math association they’ve had in a school environment. Thanks Math Camp!”
“My child had a great week there! He really loved all the counselors, meeting new friends, and enjoyed the activities. Every time he told someone what he was doing he said, ‘It is much more fun than it sounds!’ This is what I was hoping for.”
“My daughter had a blast at her first camp experience. I appreciate the holistic approach and the inclusion of subjects beyond simple operations and problem set strategies.”
“Our child really loved the penny and tin-foil boat experiment. He came home from camp yesterday and he spent the whole afternoon with his little sister building boats in our kitchen sink and trying to float all my loose change.”
“Our daughter LOVES this camp. She came so excited about her kite and the balloon structures. She asked us to buy balloons so she could make more structures at home.”
“Our child loved it! The geometry projects seem especially interesting.”
“This week has been wonderful. My son was excited to go every day! Thank you!”
“Thank you for this wonderful experience!”
“I wish regular school was more like Math Camp.”
“What a wonderful group of counselors. The kids absolutely love this camp!”
“Our son went to four camps this summer – this is #4. Several times he said ‘this is the best camp all summer!’ Thanks for everything.”
“Math Camp Rocks! What a wonderful privilege to be able to be here.”
“This program was awesome. My child really enjoyed it and learnt many things from it.”
